UPDATE: 2/24/11 -- Thank you ALL so much for your prayers for my surgery! Everything went so well, and we sensed the Lord's presence and peace in a very real way!! God has blessed with a good recovery, and we're also praising the Lord that all my tests came back clear. Please rejoice with us! Thank you, again!

Well, this isn't our typical blog post...but this has not been a 'typical' week for our household!! In fact, it's been a week filled with visits to the doctor, emergency rooms, and now a surgery scheduled for this coming weekend! On this past Sunday morning, I [Abi] awoke with severe abdominal pain. Upon arriving at the ER and having several tests run--it was discovered that I have a 4 inch in diameter cyst inside of me. Surgery is scheduled for this Saturday morning (Feb. 5th). We would appreciate if you...our blog readers would be willing to uphold us before our Heavenly Father's throne! Specific prayer requests would be 1.) For God's peace to surround us 2.) Wisdom and skill for the doctor performing the surgery 3.) For my surgery, and recovery to go well!

Thank you in advance for supporting us in this way! We appreciate it!!!

...we said, "I do" to each other!!! What a joyous day that was, and what wonderful days have followed since. Not to say there hasn't been challenges...but God's grace is always sufficient...and we've found life is SO MUCH better walking through them together! :)

I know this post is begging for a picture, but since we're traveling at the moment that is not possible. Hopefully if life slows down long enough to catch our breath in the near future I can put a post together, and walk down 'memory lane'!?!

The lesson of the frog and the toad...

At the place where I work we have a trencher and we get jobs were we'll dig a long trench, put pipe in the trench, and then fill the trench back in.

There was one job were it rained on us before we could get the trench back filled in, and so the trench filled up with water. So, by the time it dried enough to put the pipes in and back fill there were all sorts of frogs and toads in the trench. Frogs are sleek and fast! It's amazing how much ground one can cover in just one leap. Toads on the other hand are anything but sleek. They make hopping look like a chore!

Well, we finally got to back filling in the trench. Then with about four hundred feet of trench left I saw a frog in the trench that with each hop would distance itself from the wall of dirt falling into the trench behind it. I thought, "This frog should easily be able to make it to the end of the trench." For I knew they we were not going to fill the last ten feet of the trench because we needed to finish the pipe at the end. But after only five or six hops the frog gave up hope, quit jumping, and tried to hide from sure death by hiding under the pipe, and that frog is still there, under three feet of dirt! I thought, "The stupid frog, it could have hopped the four hundred feet, made it to the end and still be alive!"

Then, with about three hundred feet of trench left to fill I came across this toad hopping for all it was worth to just barely stay ahead of the wall of dirt pouring in behind it...like a wall of death nipping at it's heels! I thought the poor toad probably won't make it a hundred feet till it gets tired and gets covered up. As I watched, much to my amazement the toad never quit hopping, but some how managed to stay one hop ahead of the wall of dirt pouring in over it. The longer the toad kept going the more obvious it became that the toad was getting tired! Its jumps became less coordinated, and it covered less ground with each hop. A couple times it hesitated for just a moment like it was going to give up! After all, it saw no end in sight, and it had no idea that we were not going to fill the last ten feet. For all it knew it could make it to the end, end up trapped, and still get covered! But then just in time it would take off hopping. It seemed the more visibly tired the toad got, the more determined it would press on as if to say, " I have put forth lots of effort, and I'm going to do everything I can so it's not going to be in vain, and every hop is another effort that makes me more determined to make it not be in vain." That toad hopped three hundred feet in the bottom of that trench, and as far as I know it's still alive today!

I believe God let me observe the toad and the frog to give me a visual contrast of what it means to persevere...to keep pressing on when it all seems hopeless with no end in sight. We cannot see the end of the trench, but He can! I found myself cheering the toad on, "Come on toad just keep going, you can make it!" I believe God is doing the same, "Keep on going, keep persevering, be faithful TO THE END and you will receive the crown of life!" (see Revelation 2:10)

Truth vs. Lie

Here is a project and/or somthing to think about!

First, think of someone you know that is a joyful, content, and peaceful person.

Lets think this through!

If evolution is true and that's how we all got here, by chance, what would be the purpose in life? With evolution we all got here by chance, and there is no accountibility for our actions after we die. Therefore, our purpose in life would be self gratification, and pleasure! In other words me first, and that will bring me joyfulness, contentment and peace.

On the other hand if the Bible is true, and we were created for a purpose. According to the Bible, what is that purpose? First of all, we were made to have a relationship with God.

(Jn. 10:14) We were also made to serve. (Matt. 20:26-28) We could go on and on, but notice the trend, God first, others second and me last! This will bring true joyfulness, contentment and peace.

Look at the contrast!

Me first, others last.

OR

Me last, God and others first.

The person that came to mind as somone who was a joyful, content, peaceful person, are they the me first type, or God and others first type person?? Of all the people I know it's those that are God and others first that are consistently joyful, content, and peaceful people. On the contrary those that have the, "me first" additude are some of the most miserable people!

God's word is true in every part of life! It's easy to say, "I believe it." But what are my actions? Am I living the lie of evolution by putting me first? How do I put me first? Unforgivness, disobediance, having bad attitudes, not willing to serve, irresponsibility, and the list goes on and on.

Yet, in thinking this through I had to ask myself, do I deceive myself by "believing" the truth and living a lie?

Just for all those out there who wonder if I'm still in existence, I am. That's right its me, Josiah! I have been busy lately, although that has not been only reason I have not blogged in our log lately. I'm not quite sure why I haven't blogged in a while. My time has been busy on other things I guess, and Abi has been keeping it up to date. I wish I could get my pictures off my phone then you would have something to look at, instead of just boring you with words.

Last I checked God is still on the throne, because of that fact, life is good! Abi is doing and look'n great. We are now within four weeks of her due date (aka "The Final Four") and she is transitioning from the cute pregnant feeling, to the final weeks where big and uncomfortable replaces the feelings of cute. Although I think she still looks cute! I have been working for a guy running bulldozer and with all this snow we had been keeping busy pushing snow with the dozers. Today is slow, my boss said to take the day off. So its a get the "to do list" done today! (I don't think the "to do list" ever gets done)

A theme that God has been impressing upon me the past couple weeks is centered around Romans 8:28- "And we know that all things work together for good the those who love God and are called according to his purpose."

Have you ever thought, "Why would God want me with all my mistakes and imperfections?" I know I have. There are times I just plain blow it. As I think about this I come to realize more and more that God loves me not because of who I am, but because of who He is! God wants a relationship with me not because I'm perfect or such a great person, but because He is such a great and awesome God and it is because of who He is. God desire is to take my mistakes, if I'm repentant, and surrendered, and turn those mistakes into something that will bring Him glory!! What a awesome God we serve!

It is with heavy hearts that we come to this post. Our hearts go out to Josh, in the lose of his precious wife, Alaina, as well as to his family, and Alaina's family.

In such a great tragedy we must turn to our Savior, and His word. Psalm 62:8 has calmed our hearts as we've wrestled through this great lose; "Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us."

Alaina, is in heaven, worshiping and rejoicing around His throne, and though we mourn here, we must take comfort in the promises of God's word. He is our anchor and stay!

We'll miss you, Alaina! You're contagious, loving, Godly life lived for His glory will not be forgotten! Our prayers are with you, Josh, your family, and Alaina's family! May God's presence enfold you in this time, and the days to come! We love you!!

Honeymoon: Part 1

Yes! It actually allowed me to upload some pictures! So, since they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words" I'm going to let them do most of the talking!:) Enjoy!

This was at the very beginning of our trek up to the summit of Pikes Peak. What a climb it was! Switchback roads, sheer drop-offs and magnificent views! Wow!

We actually caught the 'Big Foot' crossing himself! (smile)

We arrived at the summit after nearly 2 hours of driving. It was absolutely incredible! I will never forget it!

Did you know? That America the Beautiful was penned after Kathrine Lee Bates visited the summit of Pikes Peak? I didn't, but once you've been there you can understand why someone would be so inspired!

The views at the summit of Pikes Peak were breathtaking! We serve an awesome Creator!!

I didn't know this about the Rockies, and found it fascinating!

Here we are behind the waterfall at Casa Bonita's

On the opening night of Fireproof, we headed to Denver and ate at Casa Bonita's before the movie. It was such a fun restaurant! Josiah had been there before, and it was special to get to go back with him. They had live entertainment while you were eating. Everything from music, to old type gun shows, and divers who dove from up to 28 feet into a 14 foot deep pool with a waterfall too! It was a ton of fun!!

Some of you know that we spent our honeymoon in Colorado, and the rest of you just found out. (grin) My wonderful husband planned 10 marvelous days to be away, and it was so special!

The scenery was alsolutely gorgeous! This is Pikes Peak!!

Us, as the summit...what a view!

We also went to Garden of the Gods. The massive rock structures were incredible!!

As to the pictures...well...you'll have to just use your imagination! (LOL!:) My computer is giving me fits about uploading them! So until it actually lets me you will just have to be creative as to what it might look like! :) You can be sure though, that I'll get them on as soon as I can. Hopefully attaining an actual 'honeymoon post'?!

Guess what happened to me this morning?!? I awoke to my sweet husband laughing out loud, in his sleep at a dream he was having! So I woke him...because it was 4:30am, and I desired a little more sleep than that. It was a funny dream, but if you think I'm going to publish that here, you've got to be kidding! LOL!

The best part of it all--was that he delivered to me a GREAT BIG

Which is nothing new...he does that every morning when I awake!!:) And that--was TOTALLY WORTH waking up for!!!

Since you've all been asking...and because this post is LONG overdue...I thought I'd take a moment, and at least try to update all those out there wondering how WE are?!

It hardly seems possible that we've already been married 82 days! Where has the time gone?! Marriage is wonderful, and my husband is the ABSOLUTE BEST there is!(grin) I can say that, 1)because he's mine, and I know 2)also, because I know the password to login, and 3)just because he is!!

I can't believe that Christmas is just around the corner. Are you all ready? I'm not!! I think it has successfully snuck up on me this year. Wonder why that would be?? Hopefully soon I'll get up some decorations here, and then I'll most likely feel, or see that it's coming!?!

Between Thanksgiving, and being gone to visit the family in Branson(tons of fun, and special memories!). I've not been home much to pull them out, or go shopping for a few things of our own. All the cute ones...my mom has!:)

So, I hope you all don't mind me trying my hand at this whole blogging/posting world?! My husband is super busy with work--faithfully providing, and caring for me! Therefore, you'll have to bear with my glitches, and hope it doesn't take me toooooo looonnnggg to get a handle on how this all works!

Holding your breath is probably not a good idea. Because there's a high likelihood you could just run out! lol! Yet, I'll do my best to drop in now and then as time allows.

Josiah flew down to join our family in Orlando, Florida, this past weekend to surprise Andrew on his birthday. That of course gave lots of opportunities for some fun pictures, and I thought I'd post some here.

But I do want to make the annoucement before I go any further that I am not 'hacking' my brother's blog. Last time someone posted something without his knowing, he was quick to point out to all of us that since this is his cockpit, we had surely hijacked his blog. BIG difference.

From time to time I like to throw out a riddle or some kind of trivia. So here we go. I was reading in 1Kings and the end of chapter 6, and beginning of chapter 7 tells us that Solomon spent 7 years building the temple, and 13 years building his own house. How grand Solomons house must have been. I found in Ecclesiastes where Solomon makes a brief comment about what might be considered today as the "master bedroom/bathroom". What is it, and where? See if you can find it.

After over four years and more than $25,000 dollars invested I can now be paid to fly! This morning God gave a beautiful day to take my commercial pilot check ride. And with God's blessings I passed with complements from the examiner. Praise The Lord!

Ok, so its been awhile since I have posted. But then again not much is happing with the family gone. I have been studing a lot, and working some. So as I do not have anything to write about lately I thought I would share that happend a long time ago, one of my Childhood memories. As a person grows and learns, there are two basic ways of learning. From other peoples experiences, and from your own experiences. Well, this is my knowledge that I'm am going to pass on to you from my own experience that AC and DC electricity are diffrent. As a young fellow I was your curios type. I loved, and still do love to figure things out and how they work. When I was eight or nine I got a erector set from dad and mom for Christmas that had a little 3 volt electric motor to power the different things you could build. I noticed that the AA batteries were 1.5 volts and that the two of them were put in series in the battery case. Thus I concluded that when you put batteries in series you added the voltage. So I lined up four batteries in series and put the wires to the ends and noticed that more voltage equaled more rpm's and more power. thus stared my quest to see how fast I could get that little motor to spin. I got a 9 volt battery, then two 9 volt batteries, and they worked really well as the positive and negative sides snapped right together real nice. I began to think of how many nine volt batteries I could get a hold of, and just about that time my eye caught sight of the outlet on the wall. I knew that was 120 volts, wow, that will make this thing spin really fast. So I took the wires and stuck them into the outlet expecting the motor to spool up like a jet engine. Instead all I got was disappointments in the form of a flash, sparks and a puff. That little engine never did work again, it was fried. It was only later that I learned that there was a difference between AC and DC electricity. I will not bore you with the details of the differences, but believe me, there is a difference.

When it comes to food I will be the first to admit, with a mom and four sisters that can cook really well, and more learning, I am spoiled! Here recently they themed a restaurant that we have been at up in Michigan called, Taboo. Now Taboo serves wonderful lamb, but we didn't have any lamb so instead they used one of my favorite meats, cow tongue. (the meat in the center of the platter) So I come home from work and wonder what's for supper, lift up the lid on the pot and there is a cow tongue boiling around in the pot. That's a little different, but if you can get past the mental block, cow tongue is one of the best parts of the cow. I rate it up there with the steaks. It's very tender and tasty!

Happy New Year! As in thinking of 2007, in one word or phrase, How would you sum up the year? What is the top ten memories of the last year? And what has the Lord taught you in the past year?
For me to sum up the year: Practical learning, and rubber meets the road. Practical learning: having gone out to Wyoming and living some on my own, I had to learn how to do laundry, make my own lunches…ect (yes I was spoiled up with wonderful sisters who did all that for me) Rubber meets the road: I also have had a great opportunity this year for learning how to apply my convictions and wisdom from God’s word to real life situations.

Over the last year the Lord has taught me a lot of things. But if I were to sum it up I would say it would have to be, simply trust the Lord for EVERYTHING, He knows what He is doing and that’s all I need to know.

Merry Christmas! This year was somewhat more relaxed than previous years. Thanks to some extra help on the bus. (thanks Twin!) Dad and I even had some time to go up and fly on Christmas eve! Since I'll have to fly form the right seat for my instructor rating, I let dad have the left and I sat in the right seat. (I have flown from the right seat before) I let dad do most the flying, he did pretty good, except he kept trying to land it 40 ft above the runway, that's when I would take over. It was a lot of fun. It makes me look forward to getting my instructor rating. That evening we had our family Christmas, And left for Grandpa and Grandma Hager's house. Christmas day we were able to sing at the prison in Prairie Du Chien, it went really well. It is really neat to be able to be there on Christmas day.

Ok! just so that all my "fan base", (is it three or four?) that check my blog know, I'm still alive, around, and well, keeping busy.
Now, I'd like to address some things I see have been going on in my "virtual cockpit". First of all, good things take time. I know it might take ten or twenty years, but I just might end up with some real nice whiskers. And besides, you can't blame a guy for trying his best, can you? I'm mean, my Dad's Dad was the only one in his unit in the army that could go almost a whole week in boot camp without shaving, and not get in trouble! So the fact that it can be seen on a picture after only ??????? days, ok, maybe it was months, anyway, its still beating the odds, even if it is just barely. A couple weeks ago my family was even saying it was to the point of needing trimmed! So I looked it over carefully and trimmed three of the whiskers. They were right, it looks a lot better after that. And just so you know where I stand, I stand behind my whiskers!

Due to there being no recent posts on this cockpit called Josiah's, I thought I'd give you an update: He's home. He's busy.

Now that you know what he is up to, I thought I'd get a little more personal: if you hadn't noticed in pictures yet, he came home with some fuzz on his chin...I think it definitely makes him look older; more 'bachlor-ish!' (If that is a word!) He hasn't mentioned anything about it on here yet, but I think he kind of likes it. What do you all think?

My first full week of work in Wyoming was just that, a full six day week. We worked from sun up, till sun down. I'm thankful for God's protection as I did fall twelve feet through the rafters on to the concrete floor. I landed on my feet and rolled onto my back, stood up, brushed myself off and went back to work.

As you can see we made pretty good progress this week on this 100x68ft shop.

Today I had the day off so Michal Hipps (a friend for Nebraska who is also out here working) and I went hiking up in the mountains. We were told there were grizzly bears in the area, so we went prepared, but we didn't see any. It was a beautiful seven hour hike.

Working in Wyoming is a little different than Nebraska. The things you see along the road on the way to the job site are quite amazing for this Nebraska boy. Take for instants, this bear. (sorry the picture is not that great, all I had was my camera on my phone) It was just sitting by the road eating berries, it didn't even seem to care that we were there. Then, at the job site, a doe with two little fawns came within twenty yards or so from us as we worked.

825 miles, in eleven and one half hours, and only one stop, (to fuel up and use the restroom) and I am safely in Cody Wyoming. I am not all to sure whats on the schedule for the rest of the week out here. I do know tomorrow I will get some flying in, as I am going to get checked out in an airplane at the local airport here in Cody. Well, I'm a bit tired right now and can't think of any thing more to right. So that's all for now!

After four whole days of sitting at my computer studying, I went and took the Flight Instructor written test. Its a 100 question test with over eight hundred questions to draw from. Praise the Lord, I achieved a 91%. Its good to have that behind me. I still have some other written test to take, but this was the hardest by far. There were a couple questions that I knew, that I knew the answer, but my mind went blank and I could not remember for the life of me ,what the answer was. So I'd pray, Lord give me the answer. Then it was like something clicked, and I would all the sudden remember what it was. I'm so glad I have a God that knows all the answers, from the little things, (like a written test) to the big, "life decisions". Its just a matter of surrendering all I am to His Lordship, seeking His face, and asking. (James 1:5-8 & 4:3)

OK, here is the answer, (drum roll) I had the shingles. The shingles comes from the same virus as the chicken-pox. So although I had fully recovered from the chicken-pox at five, when I got the shingles at ten that exposed my younger siblings to the virus, and from that they caught the chicken-pox.

So its been a while since I last posted. Its not cause nothing is going on, but rather to much is going on. Well I thought I would pose anther real life riddle. To start with I have had the chicken-pox only once in my life. I got them when I was about five years old, and was over them in a couple weeks. However five years later when I was ten, Elizabeth, Matthias, and Stephen all got the chicken-pox, and they got them from me. How can this be seeing I had the chicken-pox only once and fully recovered about five years earlier? It really happened, but how? See if you can figure it out. (For anyone out there who has already heard me tell this riddle you are not allowed to give the answer.)

Here are some pictures from the last week or so. Its been a good week as we have made our way up the western coast, and now we will be heading eastward. God's creation is awesome, the mountains, and water falls, it has been beautiful driving. We tried to see some Red Woods in California, but after driving twenty minutes and and five miles on the little road that leads up there, the trailer had dropped off the shoulder because of the steep turns and we blew a tire . So we turned around and went back to the Interstate.

All right, its been a while since I have posted, and, well its kind of like this -- I've been busy. We finely made it out to Californa. After a week and a half of working on the bus it was good to get on the road. We drove though the beutiful rocky mountains and after a full day of driving it was a welcome break to stop at a rest stop just into Utah.

The rocks were great for running, climbing, hiding, and burning up a lot of bottled up energy.

No need to worry, Andew was able to pull himself up, or maybe he just stood up.

And welcome to "sunny" California!

The axle housing had to come out to fix excessive ware in the spindles that was caused by spinning (bad) bearings. Also the transmission we found was the same as gone. After looking it over it made us wonder how it even made it this far. Today the new differential came in and tomorrow the new transmission will get here, and the axle housing should be done. So we will be putting everything back together tomorrow and Saturday, and Lord willing will be on the road Saturday night. We have had to cancel and postpone a few thing this weekend, Lord willing, we should be able to be out in California by Tuesday for a school we are supposed to be at.
